Our Weekend has been an amazing one. It was so great to attend Chevening’s Best of British Event, Houses of Parliament Visit and Boat-ride along the Thames, a one-day tour visiting the Houses of Parliament, taking a boat ride along the River Thames, and having academic talks at the University of Greenwich.
Our first stop was at the House of Parliament. As we arrived, we got a brief from Chevening Programme Officier Jessica Wong on a tentative program of the day and how it will go.
We had access to the halls at the House of Parliament, enabling us to see Westminster Hall, St Stephen’s Hall, the Prince’s Chambers, the Royal Gallery, the Commons Chamber and the Lords Chamber. Our Audio/multimedia guide briefed us about the history, heritage and work of the UK Parliament as we walked in the footsteps of monarchs and prime ministers. We lasted an hour as we had our way around the Houses of Parliament.
Rounding off at the House of Parliament, we walked to Westminster Pier, where we boarded our boats and started off our Boat-ride along the River Thames as we headed for the University of Greenwich. The boat ride was exciting as we spent an hour sightseeing the River Cruise ride from the Westminster Pier to the Greenwich Pier. We sailed over the famous London and Tower Bridge during the boat ride, seeing the beauty of the renowned sight and many others. An exhilarating moment for us all.
After an hour of boat-riding along the Thames, we arrived at the University of Greenwich campus. We had lunch and relaxed as we networked with one another, allowing us to learn about fellow scholars’ work. We later sat at the Lecture Theatre QA180 at the University of Westminster. We had the last moment of the day, an academic talk facilitated by Dr Claire Eustance, Senior Lecturer FHES, History Programme Leader at the University of Greenwich. Following her presentation and session, Scholars had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the topic after her presentation.
And that was it. We came to the end of our fantastic day and event, as we all left for our various destinations.
